Hi,

I have an older Joomla website running J2Store v 3.3.16 PRO. I have a new Joomla 5 website that I need to migrate this store into J2Store v 4.0.10 PRO. Can you help me?

Many thanks in advance,

Hello Erik,

is the website already under Joomla 5? If so, you should be able to install the latest version of J2Commerce over to it.

The most important thing for you to do is make sure all plugins that were installed for Joomla 3 are available in Joomla 4 and download them. The store WILL NOT function properly unless all plgins have been updated.

If the site is still under Joomla 3, please follow the instructions here: https://www.j2commerce.com/migration-from-j2store-3-to-4.

Let us know if you have any question.

Olivier.

Erik,

To make sure we are able to give you the most helpful instruction, so you have two sites now? Joomla 3 and new Joomla 5 and you are asking how to move the j2store v3 and migrate to joomla 5 site, or have you already migrated the joomla 3 site and need to do the same for J2Store?

I have a new Joomla 5 site that I build from scratch. I already installed J2 shopping cart on the new site. Just need to migrate the products and data from the old site into the new site. Is there a way to simply export data from Joomla 3 and import into Joomla 5?

Old Site: www.craigco.co

New Site: http://162.240.65.95/~craigco2025/

Thanks,

Erik

Erik,

Depending on how comfortable you are in the database, after using the Migration Steps (found here : https://www.j2commerce.com/migration-from-j2store-3-to-4) and then migrating the joomla 3 site to joomla 5, you could then migrate the necessary joomla and j2store tables from the migrated site over to the new joomla 5 site.  This would entail multiple database tables as the products are linked to articles which are now connected to web asset manager as well as the users who created and modified the articles so there are a lot tables that would need to be migrated over (if that's the case it may make more sense to migrate the joomla 3 site and then bring over the changes from the new joomla 5 site.

The other option is to use ROCSVI import to migrate the joomla 3 products into a spreadsheet and import them into the joomla 5 site (found here: https://rolandd.com/products/ro-csvi)
They are very supportive of J2Store/J2Commerce and have additional J2Store specific templates to help with the migration.

In your case, I would probably lean towards the second option (ROCSVI) as it would create new article id's and product id's automatically while keeping all of the product info from the Joomla 3 site intact.

If you haven't tried the first method and migrated everything over, that might also be another option as well. Let me know how it goes and if you run into any other issues, please don't hesitate to let us know!
